Access Statement

Introduction

This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors.

The Railway Inn is situated on the A415 Abingdon to Dorchester-on-Thames, adjacent to Culham Railway Station. We are two miles from Abingdon, one mile from the Thames Footpath and 10 minutes walk from Culham Science Park.

We have 10 rooms to offer. Two family rooms comprising of a double and single bed. Three twin rooms with two single beds and four double rooms with a double bed in each. We also have one double deluxe family room comprising of one double and two put up single beds. All rooms are en-suite. Breakfast is included.

Car Parking and Arrival

There is ample paring in two car parks. One car park is in front of the building and the second is to the rear. If parking in the rear car park you will access the building via a staircase at the side. It is advisable to leave baggage in your car until you have booked in.

Welcome Area

Guests are welcomed in the lounge/restaurant bar on the ground floor. After checking in you will be shown to your room by one of the staff.

Guest Bedrooms

All rooms can be accessed from the rear car park across a light traffic road. Bedrooms are on the first and second floor. There is a ramp to rear doors. All outer and bedroom doors are all 2ft 9″. ¬†Doors to en-suite are 2ft 6″. All bedrooms are short pile carpet. All en-suite are lino. Toilets and hand basins are standard height.

All rooms have ceiling lighting, lamps on each side of the bed and mother/daughter lamps. Access from these rooms to the dining area and public bar which are on the ground level are down one flight of stairs.

Public Areas – Halls, Stairs, Landings and Corridors

All public areas are well lit using a combination of ceiling and wall lights, with short pile carpet.

There are two flights of stairs. The first flight is from the dining area/lounge bar (which is where you will register) with three step winder at the top and bottom. There are 13 steps to the first floor with handrail and grab rails.

The second flight consists of 13 steps with a three step turn at the bottom. There is a hand rail to the right on ascending.

Public Areas – Lounge and Dining

The lounge and dining area is carpeted and is situated on the ground floor. There is a small step from the car park to the front door. Parking is close to the door. There are two doors to enter this area; these are both 30″ wide. The dining area sear 40 with wooden tables and chairs.

There is a varied menu. Please let us know of any dietary requirements on booking.

Evening meals are served 6pm to 9pm every day with the exception of Sunday evening, no food available.

Lunch menu is available 12noon to 2.30pm except Monday.

Traditional English breakfast is served from 6am to 9am weekdays and 7am to 9.30am on Saturday and Sunday. Breakfast can be served earlier at weekends by prior arrangement. Cereals, porridge, fruit pots and orange juice are also available.

There are wall lights and chandeliers in these areas.

The gents and ladies toilets have wash hand basins.

Public Bar

The bar is situated on the ground floor. This area has a short pile carpet. There are bar stools and bench seating for 20 people. Gaming machine, juke box and 32″ flat screen TV.

The gents toilet has a 2ft 6″ door, one cubicle toilet of standard height, two urinals and a wash hand basin with standard taps. The ladies/disabled toilet has a door width of 3ft. There is a grab rail, drop down rail and room for a wheelchair to the left side of the standard height toilet. The wash hand basin has a lever action tap. Both toilet areas are well lit.

Garden

The garden is across a low traffic road at the front of the building, comprising of four seating areas with flower borders. The garden has a surrounding curb edge.

Additional Information

Evacuation procedures are in place and you will be assisted if need be.

Mobile phone contact is in the information pack should you require assistance or feel unwell. This contact is for emergency only.

There is a water bowl outside the front door for dogs.

Free WiFi internet access is available.

Alarm clock, hair dryer, sewing kit, writing material iron and ironing board are all available on request.

All staff are trained in emergency first aid.
